Biography

The debut full length What Its Like On The Inside by The Sincerity Guild is an album that has been in the making for over two years. Beginning in the winter of 2000, the band began recording their album but were sidelined by Aaron Ford's move to Alabama. Reuniting in 2003 with a new bassist and slightly altered lineup, The Sincerity Guild began piecing back together some older material and re-recorded a few songs for their debut album, available from theory 8 records.

Hailing from Nashville, TN, the current lineup consists of Aaron Ford (drums), Ryan Parrish (guitar) and Ryan Burleson (guitar). Completely recorded in their own studio by themselves, What Its Like On The Inside is finally seeing release with a reunited band and sound.

Ford and Jeremy met in 1996 when they were in Shortside for a brief period before Ford left to go on tour playing drums for Bluetip. Upon his return to Nashville, Ford was anxious to put together a band that was a reflection of his own musical tastes. “I needed an outlet for this music I had been writing and wanted to tackle the challenge of trying to convey my "message" through music without words,” says Ford, “I've always admired and loved jazz and I wanted to create a very jazz-oriented rock band where the music wasn't divided into parts that each of the instruments played so much as the instruments were a means to an end, so to speak. “ This led to the creation of The Sincerity Guild in the winter of 2000. After recording a few tracks for a 2001 release, Ford decided to put the band on hold and move to Alabama, “My wife and I found out that we were going to have to move to Alabama for school so we put the band on hold. All the while I kept writing new songs and working out arrangements and such and we kept working as much as we could.” Upon his second return back to Nashville, Ford reunited the band, moving Jeremy to guitar and adding Brett Miotti from Chicago to bass and Ryan Burleson, formerly of Embraced, to guitar. They immediately began recording new material for What Its Like On The Inside. After the album release, the band was paired down to a trio, adding Ryan Parrish, formerly of Hopesfall and Celebrity to guitar.

The Sincerity Guild has a unique sound, the most obvious being they are all instrumental. Ford's songwriting and playing are highly influenced by jazz, leaving the listener with a sense of something more than your average rock band gives. Falling somewhere between bands like Don Caballero and Tortoise, but possessing the indie rock prowess of bands like Jawbox, Ford explains his approach to songwriting, “The main influence on my songwriting has been none other than the mighty John Coltrane. His albums are absolutely essential in understanding how my brain works musically. The man was a genius. If I could ever name one album that would hold all of my ideas about music it would be A Love Supreme. It's beautiful.” This, among many other influences makes up The Sincerity Guild's sound, “In my quest to make a ‘jazz-driven' rock band I listened to a lot of jazz. Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy etc. Those artists inspired me to be uncompromising in trying to flesh out my vision of what this thing should be or ‘say'. Of course there is also A LOT of rock and roll contained in this band, some of the biggest influences I can think of on me personally would be Devo, Led Zeppelin, The B-52's, Gary Numan, Polvo, The Pixies, Booker T. & The MG's, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Bob Marley, The Police, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox and Foo Fighters. The other boys definitely love Cave-in and The Cure.”

Upon the release of What Its Like On The Inside, The Sincerity Guild will begin touring the Southeast in the summer of 2004. Over the past few months, the band has all ready played with other well known touring acts such as The American Analog Set, The Mercury Program and Unwed Sailor.

The album was recorded entirely by the band themselves in their own studio, but will be mixed by Bob Weston and mastered by Jim Demain for a September 28th release date.
