theory 8 is proud to announce the release of our very first 7 inch vinyl release, Gorilla Man by Caitlin Rose.

The 7 inch will be available for purchase on July 22nd.

Tracklisting:

Side A: Shotgun Wedding & Gorilla Man Pt. 1

Side B: Answer in One of These Bottles & Gorilla Man Pt. 2

There are a number of reasons why this 7 inch is special.

Let's discuss:

1. This 7 inch contains four songs by Caitlin. Most 7 inches only contain two.

2. If you purchase this 7 inch and don't have a record player, no worries. Each purchase comes with a FREE digital download coupon so you can put these killer tracks on your iPod or Sony Walkman or whatever.

Not owning a record player is no excuse not to buy!

3. This 7 inch is LIMITED EDITION. We only pressed a small amount and once they are gone, they are gone forever. Don't wait.

4. Shotgun Wedding on Side A is actually a PREVIEW of Caitlin's new LP featuring the same song from the Dead Flowers EP, only beefed up with full band instrumentation. It's killa.

5. Two tracks, Gorilla Man Pt.1 and Answers... are more full band versions of her all ready classic cuts from her EP. They have been reworked and sound amazing. The only way you'll hear these versions is on this 7 inch.

6. The final track, Gorilla Man Pt. 2 is an EXCLUSIVE Caitlin song specifically written for the 7 inch. You will not find it released on any of her other albums.

7. The cover design was executed by Alex Pearson at Family Tree Design. He made it look swell.

8. Thanks to Jeremy Ferguson at Battletapes for making it sound like it's supposed it. Swell.

Check out the review of Dead Flowers,Caitlin's last EP, in the July issue of American Songwriter Magazine...

"Much has been surmised about what attendance at Loretta Lynn's first teenaged performance might have entailed. Caitlin Rose's Dead Flowers seems answer the question, once and for all. Rose unflinchingly tackles the timeless topics of teenage pregnancy and primate love with an enthusiasm that is, if not completely infectious, to be admired. Singing in an alto at once pure yet deliciously tainted by MySpace and high school ("I make music because I hate homework," she famously opines), Rose manages to infuse such barn burners as "Shotgun Wedding" and "Gorilla Man" with the kind of brio that tends to get ProTooled out of most modern country albums and lovingly delivers a poignantly flat version of the eponymous Stones cover that is enormously effective in a patently 21st century way."

MORE PRESS on Caitlin Rose's Dead Flowers EP...

From TwangNation.com:

"The love of country's history exhibited immediately with the EP's packaging and on the first cut of the Dead Flowers EP. With 'Shotgun Wedding" Rose sings the tune with a Smokey Mountain lilt over Bob Grant's excellent mandolin . "Answer In One Of These Bottles" takes it's place with another classic narrative of drinking to forget Rose then shows she has the pipes to take on the Patsy Cline classic Three Cigarettes In An Ashtray as she covers it with all it'sforelorn beauty. Docket is a quirky Kris Kristofferson -style solo-guitar number that is perfect Summer listening and a lone tambourine accompanies the whimsical Gorilla Man brings to mind ShelSilverstein play on words."

From the Murfreesboro Pulse:

"With her latest release, Dead Flowers, Caitlin Rose is well on her way to success with her mix of dirty, old-fashioned country and innovative blues feel...The overall instrumentation is almost a cosmic sound, taking the listener to the crossroads of blues and country. Rose brings together a pure, dynamic sound throughout the album, piecing together a beautiful vibrant tone with a generous attitude. The album is at times naked and bare, revealing a softer, sensual side to Rose, yet at other times the album is powerful and driving, revealing a sad but true meaning within its content.

Rose is more than just your typical next door country gal full of folk and blues influence. Her music is full of imagery and emotion and her observations of Southern life remind you of the life you never hoped to lead but always were curious to know."

Dead Flowers FOR SALE!!!
Dead Flowers FOR SALE!!!

Dead Flowers EP is officially released!!!

In case you need another reason to buy this wonderful ep for a whopping $5, read this live review below from Nashville Cream

Last night, Caitlin Rose celebrated the release of her wonderful debut EP—though she did admit that she had sold a few in Murfreesboro over the weekend. Unabashedly open about her nervousness, Rose charmed the crowd and expertly showcased her myriad of talents.

1. Rose actually managed to get the crowd to sing along. (This is Nashville! She was the opener!! These people weren't even drunk yet!!!) A sizable portion of the early-arriving attendees joined the 20-year-old songstress for the chorus of "Answer in One of These Bottles," and they sounded pretty decent doing it.

2. That girl can sing. Like really sing. It was on the slower numbers that her vocal prowess really shone. She has that tone, that dynamism, that certain je ne sais quoi that many of this years AI contestants would kill for.

3. You can't teach charisma. This young lady's humility and quirkiness is undeniably alluring—it was especially cute when she took off her hat for the sad ones.

we're releasing VINYL!
we're releasing VINYL!

Where do we start?

We spent the latter part of 2007 revving up our engines for a busy, busy, busy 2008. We are surprised all ready at what is surely going to be our busiest year yet. And it's only January.

Stick with us, a lot of news we just are not ready to announce yet. That's how this business works, kids. But when the news hits, hold on to your granny cause it's going to feel like you just got punched in the face.

February will see the release of the Dead Flowers EP by none other than our little sweetheart, Caitlin Rose. The EP will feature SEVEN new songs, five being original Cato ditties as well as TWO COVERS. You can maybe guess by now one is the classic Stones' song Dead Flowers and the other is Patsy Cline's Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray.

Caitlin will be busy performing live in Nashville in February, visit her site to get specifics.

Nashville, do not miss Caitlin's performance at the legendary Bluebird on March 22nd!

March is all ready filling up. You don't really think we'd miss SXSW do you? Yeah, we'll be there with at least FOUR acts. Some from the label, some from the management company, all family. In fact, don't be surprised if a few our bands play all week. DETAILS COMING SOON!

Are you still reading? You should be cause this is the BIGGEST PART YET!!!

In March of 2008, theory 8 records will be releasing...

A 7 INCH!

Gasp, we know.

Our inaugural 7 inch release will be with none other than Caitlin Rose. We plan on putting her sweet little voice on wax for fans of good music. Again, details, details, details are on the way, but we're looking at possibly four songs on one 7 inch. Shut up, we know all ready. It will be ready just in time for Caitlin's debut appearance at SXSW.

We also have at least THREE (maybe four) more releases being planned as we speak, including the Shotgun Wedding LP by Caitlin Rose. Not to mention our 8/8/08 Nashville party celebrating our 8th ANNIVERSARY! That's soooo many eights!!!

And that doesn't even include what's hot on the management TIP!

Let's just get to the point shall we?

De Novo Dahl - Move Every Muscle, Make Every Sound will be released by Roadrunner on March 25th. Look for them on the road everywhere in 2008, including SXSW appearances. Think it's odd that they are on Roadrunner, YOU AREN'T THE ONLY ONE!!!

SAVE MACAULAY THE BAND BREAKS UP!!!

New EP to be released as Caitlin Rose.

After four years of writing, recording and playing live, Nashville’s own Save Macaulay the Band has decided to break up.

All reference to Save Macaulay will now be made as Caitlin Rose.

With very little explanation as to what happened within the group to cause such a drastic change after so many years of a being a band, primary singer/songwriter, Caitlin Rose simply states, 'Save Macaulay the Band broke up. We're through."

It comes as a shock to many, including label head, Aaron Hartley of theory 8 records. "I didn't see this one coming at all. I've seen plenty of bands call it quits over the years but never a group so close as Save Macaulay. I just hope Caitlin can pull herself together, step up to the plate and be able to carry herself as a solo act. It can be a tough transition to make, but I'm confident she'll surprise us all."

The break up comes on the verge of what would be Save Macaulay's first release, now to be released as Caitlin Rose. It is a seven song EP, produced by Andrija Tokic, that contains five original songs and two covers, "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray” originally performed by Patsy Cline and the title track,"Dead Flowers" by The Rolling Stones.

The Dead Flowers EP will be officially released as Caitlin Rose by theory 8 records in January of 2008. It will be a predecessor to the debut LP, produced by Joel J. Dahl and Jeremy Ferguson, also to be released by theory 8 records in the Spring of 2008.

Five new songs from both the EP and LP are now available on Caitlin Rose's myspace page.

The Carter Administration

What PEOPLE are saying:

"After nearly a decade of puns, witticisms and loud guitars, The Carters continue their streak as one of the city's most prolific and consistent bands...there isn't a single weak track here, and the album stands as a strong LP by a band that has long since mastered the EP format. - The Nashville Scene

"These guys have dutifully stuck to stripped-down rock longer than pretty much anyone in town, but Copout shows they've still got a few new tricks, and the old ones haven't worn out their welcome." - All The Rage

Forget Cassettes was reviewed in the latest issue of NME!

Fresh off their debut UK release of Salt on Tangled Up and their month long tour with Trail of Dead, it is always nice to come home to a review like this...

Forget Cassettes might hail from Nashville, home of country, but this lot aren't your typical yee-hawing Ole Opry revivalists. Beth Cameron, smoldering heroine at the band's centre, channels the sort of whisper-to-shriek Polly Harvey vocal histrionics and napalm-spraying guitar to make a thousand indie boys tremble with a strange mix of adolescent lust and abject terror. "I won't be anyone's number two", she purrs on Quiero, Quieres – a bitter break up song that's already scanning the horizon for the next lover. Don't mistake Cameron as a bunny boiler, though: Salt gets way weirder than that on the likes of Venison which opens with a firestorm of Fugazi guitars, but cools into a torch song that holds conversations with roadkill. 7 out of 10!

Beth Cameron, performing as Forget Cassettes, finalized a European record deal with One Little Indian Records and Tangled Up Recordings, home of artists such as Bjork, The Twilight Singers and The Pernice Brothers. One Little Indian/Tangled will be re-releasing the album Salt, originally released in the United States by theory 8 records, on March 5th.

The time is here!

We have a new website.

A huge, gigantic thank you goes to Michael Eades who built us an amazing new site. The time and effort put in to this site by Michael cannot be explained here. Just know that he earned lots of jewels on his crown in our indie rock heaven for this site.

Thank you Michael.

Notice a new addition to the site, our official Artist Management section. This represents a new venture for the theory 8 crew, helping out some of our artists who have the opportunity to move up to bigger labels like De Novo Dahl. We're also reserving a few spots for other artists who may need our help.

Check out the site.

Lots of "official" news is just around the corner...
